8 Ways to Get Rid of Acne

Acne is terrible, and I’ve had it for as long as I remember. They seem to flare up a week or two before my period starts, which makes my face look horrid and ugly. For many years, I’ve just left it there, and picked on the scars, resulting in almost irreparable damage to my skin. However, I’ve picked up some really great skincare routines which works very well for me that I’d like to share.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Having a diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables seem to particularly help. Ever since I’ve switched to eating mostly vegetables, my skin cleared up a lot. Fruits are best eaten in the morning. If you don’t like the taste of vegetables, try some more traditional acne treatment, even though my goal is to help you see that vegetables can taste brilliant. You can also make smoothies from fresh fruits and vegetables!

Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc

I actually take this for PMS but I discovered that since I’ve been taking it regularly, my flare ups have decreased a lot! Even when there was a period of time I wasn’t taking it in Australia during my vacation, I noticed that my acne got worse. I’ve no doubt that this helped! I even read that zinc is a brilliant remedy for acne.

Green Tea

This is the actual brand of tea I drink, but I take decaf because I always have trouble sleeping. If you don’t have these problems, it’s best to have the regular green tea. We’ve all heard about the plethora of benefits green tea offers, particularly how much antioxidants there are, that helps us cleanse our system and get rid of toxins. Green tea can also be applied topically on the face!

Cut down on Milk

Though milk has plenty of benefits, it’s not particularly good for acne for some reason. I noticed that when I was drinking milk each day, I had a lot more acne. After stopping, it died down again. So, I’ve now replaced milk with rice milk, and have yoghurt once in a while.

Drink Water

Yes, you’ve heard it a million times. Drink about 8 cups a day! Though I never seem to reach that for some reason, I have been drinking more water in the morning and I really refreshed and awesome. If you find water too bland in taste, try adding some frozen fruits to flavour it naturally! You can even freeze fruits in ice cubes!

Lemon Juice

There are two ways you can use lemon juice. First, you can drink it (hopefully you’re going to throw it in with the water and not just drink it by itself, since the sour taste is guaranteed to make you squirm!) or you can apply it on your face. Lemon juice is also particularly good at curing acne scars, so I suggest buy yourself a small bottle of lemon juice and put it in your water each day.

No Junk Food

This one is probably extremely hard but it makes a world’s difference. In the past, I used to pig out on a packet of cookies a day and a bar of chocolate for lunch, with perhaps oily, greasy meats and fries. Well, let’s just say my face was always huge, with giant, red, swollen pimples that took about two weeks to go down. The worst part is the horrible pain on my face, even moving it hurts! I’m pleased to say that once I gave up on junk food completely, I’ve not had it that bad, ever!

Face Wash

I always wash my face once a day, though I recommend doing it twice! One of my favourites to use is Carley’s Clear & Smooth Acne Treatment soap. It just makes my skin feel so smooth and amazing. I think Carley’s is a brilliant brand for acne skin products, I also think the tea tree acne products for The Body Shop also works very well. The best thing to do is find one that really works for you and stick to a daily face washing regime. Also, it really benefits your skin to apply a mask once every few days. Try the DIY Green tea and Oatmeal mask.
