Spice Up Healthy Foods and Make Eating Fun!
“Spice up your healthy foods so they taste good!” – My golden advice.
The last thing I would want people to think is eating healthy is a chore and that it’s boring, daunting and you never get to eat what you want anymore. Wrong! Eating healthy can be fun, as long as you throw in some creativity. The best way to do that is look at some delicious treats, and try to recreate them in a healthy style.
All the Wonders you can do with Fruits and Vegetables:
While most of us love desserts like chocolates, cakes and candy. Let me say that fruits are the most healthiest sweet food, so why not take advantage of that?
One of the things that never made sense was when people buy fruit smoothie in a store, there’s added sugar or sweeteners on top of the natural sugar in fruits. Why?! Obviously, the sugar alone in the fruits is sweet enough, why add more? I feel that sometimes, we want things too sweet for our own good. The first step is having these delicious fruit smoothies without any added sugar.
Blend, juice or simply cut your favourite fruits and make them into popsicles. A pomegranate, apple and strawberry popsicle without any added sugar in my opinion tastes just as good ones in the supermarket filled with sugar or artificial sweeteners. You can buy popsicle makers in bigger kitchen stores. I was able to find many from Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Let’s try and recreate the smoothie with perhaps the fruits, yoghurt and ice, but without the sorbet. Remember that fruits alone should be sweet enough, there really isn’t a need to add more sugar to what’s already sweet.
This thick, chewy and big mushroom is a brilliant replacement for a steak or hamburger patty. Once, I went into a restaurant looking for something without meat on it, and one of the options was a portabella mushroom burger. I ate it and loved it so much that from then on, I used portabella mushrooms to replace a meat patties and they always turn out just as delicious. That’s not to say you should ban yourself from meat forever, the important thing is knowing how to regulate yourself.
Sweet potatoes, sometimes also known as yams, are exotic! There are so many ways to take advantage of this extremely healthy food.
1) Roast them in the oven and eat it as it is, the purple and white sweet potatoes taste particularly like cake. They’re great as it is or added with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
2) Make sweet potato chips by cutting them in slices and adding some olive oil and a sprinkle of salt.
3) Try and use sweet potatoes as an ingredient. You can try baking a cake with sweet potatoes and coco powder and see how that turns out.
4) Make ice cream with purple sweet potatoes.
The best thing about sweet potatoes is that they’re already sweet, so adding them is equivalent to adding table sugar.
So, I’ve give you just some creative ways to use healthy foods. You can come up with your own, and I would love to hear any suggestions if you have them.
